thanks ann and john i do think william j is eldest son of john and hannah
but to complecate matters there youngest daughter hannah thomas who was born sept 1891 doesn't show on any census in wales but goes to america in 1906 as a nurse and gets married in america in 1908 in scranton i have census and marriage and death certs for her,her parents are john thomas and hannah morgan i havnt found there marriage either,i know this is fact as a great aunt said she was a sister to david (thomas) thomas b 1876 as she lived with her for a while in america, it seems they changed there names making it a real headache to find them.
thankyou for sharing my brick wall

Many thanks, Ann.

Had a quick look at FreeBMD last night. Do you think William J THOMAS born c1867 Llanwonno (probably Miskin) was the eldest child of John and Hannah THOMAS?

There is a birth of a William James in June 1865 Q. And possible marriages in 1864 to Hannah JONES and Hannah DAVIES. Also noticed a Hannah HARRIS, but looks unlikley.

Many thanks, Karen. Will have a look tonight and hopefully someone will dig them out of other censuses,

6 Bailey St is right in the middle of the shops in Miskin. Right at bottom of hill below Arthur St. Think Llanwonno must have been the parish in those days, as Llanwonno village is up on the mountain and is only a pub, a church and a few scattered houses.

Have unsubscribed from Ancestry and others so cannot help with search, Karen. But think possibly a good starting point would be to list detals about father's family and his family in 1901 census in Arthur St.

Then perhaps we can locate them on other censuses etc and try clear up whether he was John THOMAS or Thomas THOMAS or both John and Thomas.

Sorry if you know the geography well, Karen. But this may be of interest for background.

Arthur Street is on western side of the Cynon river, high above Miskin main street which is in the valley below. Arthut St is about a mile south of Mountain Ash town centre down a long and quite steep road going north from Arthur St called Llanwonno Road.

Arthur St is about the last street before you climb up into Perthcelyn on the mountain road to Llanwonno and across to the next valley to the west, which is Rhonnda Fach (the smaller of the two Rhondda valleys.

JohnLovesHorlicks Report 5 Sep 2012 09:46

Have made a life-changing decision this morning.

Am going to remove myself for at least a year from any involvement in family history. Will still be on Genes but will have few records available to me as am cancelling all subs to family history sites - though I will stay on Genes as a fairly non-contributing member. And further letters about hot matches will probably not be answered very fully.

As far as this thread is concerned, I will watch it. But am unlikley to be able to help anybody significantly for at least next 12 months.

Many thanks to you all, and hope we meet up again soon. :-D :-D
