Francis' older sister's birth certificate shows similar mother maiden name. His father was born Galway and older brother born Manchester. Obituary shows he lived in Blyth for fifty years but just confirms 3 x married no wives names. He outlived his last wife. Thanks for your help I'll try and find birth certs for Francis' siblings

Have you considered getting a birth certificate of one of Francis's siblings, to double check his Mother's maiden name?
Did the obituary list all of his wives?

I found my great great grandfather Patrick's obituary in the newspaper after hearing this tale from my family - the paper confirmed he had over 200 grandchildren. I also heard this same tale from a distant relative who contacted me on this site.

What is the name of your great grandfather, and year and place of birth?
How do you know that each wife had 12 children if you cannot trace them in the censuses?
Thank-you

Claire

Claire Report 12 Sep 2012 19:27

The 1871 that refers is as above in the name of Ewan. My great grandfathers birth certificate shows maiden name but not very clear but a relative believes it may have been Hoban but as yet not traced marriage cert

Both 1881 census and death is him yes thanks. I have also traced him in 1871 but surname differs but unable to trace any further back nor trace this marriage or the birth of an older son (also Patrick b1856) born in Manchester. He eventually moved and lived in Northumberland. I am keen to trace as this was his third marriage and each wife gave birth to 12 children!

Claire...Have you actually "Traced" Patrick back or are you using his Birth Year as an indicator...

When did you first locate him outside of Ireland.....?

Have you got any of the marriage certificates??

Do any of them certificates show the name of his father??

That is a very important piece of evidence to help us find anything for you.

As you must realise, Quinn is quite a common name in Ireland, and so is Patrick :-)
