All you have to do is go back to your original post and modify the header with the word COMPLETED added to the end.

I wish more people would do this.

It is done far more regularly on Rootschat

Reggie, you can't call MC petulant when you've plainly said 'most people'.

most (mst)
adj. Superlative of many, much.
1.
a. Greatest in number
b. Greatest in amount, extent, or degree
2. In the greatest number of instances

If you are going to make such sweeping statements about GR members then you must expect some offence to be taken.

Oh and this is the dictionary definition of petulant.

pet·u·lant (pch-lnt)
adj.
1. Unreasonably irritable or ill-tempered; peevish.
2. Contemptuous in speech or behavior.

Don't be petulant, MC..............I know you're clued up

Reggie - just to keep you quiet ;-) ;-) I've marked it as closed!

But, don't tar me with the same brush as any numpties - I do actually have a clue.

Conversely, the 'marked as answered' tag is almost always misused anyway.

Most people haven't a clue.........and tag posts to which they have merely responded, thus meaning that they miss out on further help as the tag is intended to show that the query has been fully resolved

Much more sensible when the accepted practice was to add 'closed' or something similar to the title

BUT......no matter how often GR are asked to do away with the tag....they won't. It's one of their 'babies'

Well you would think so mgnv as it's not a Find Ancestor question; the same as my request fo someone to send me a copy of an entry wasn't.

Maybe GR should keep FA but change this or start a new 'Any Other Questions'

Sometimes my brain hurts :-S :-S :-S

I agree

I have posted general questions on here which do not fit into 'find ancestors' (or at least I did not think they did) and have wanted to mark them as answered.

I probably ended up deleting the post instead

Tell GR...............it's their system

So suppose I wanted to know the minimum age at which a girl can get married in Victorian England. It's 12. I would think this is the board to post that query.

It seems really silly that this cannot be marked as answered.

Reggie.

Good evening. It's good to see that you are as ever, on good form. ;-)

This is a CHAT board............

It was NOT intended that it should be used for dealing with lookups......read the post by GR

Hi MC.

I hope you are in fine form tonight :-P :-P :-P :-D <3

I found this out yesterday when I wanted to mark my request for Newspaper Archive look up.

It does seem strange that we ask questions on GC but no facility to mark as answered. Do you think that we should only talk on here but ask all questions on FA?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 13 Nov 2012 20:44

Yep! There is no facility to mark as answered on here.

Obviously we're not supposed to ask questions! :-)

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 13 Nov 2012 20:43

It seems that if you post on this board you don't get the option to mark the thread as answered.

Being nosy I've got to test it!
