I wonder can anyone advise me if Ancestry have any incoming boat records from Ireland about the 1930,s on their world subcription, I'm Looking for my Mother-in-law who came to England from Ireland to train in London Colneys mental hospitals, she was born I believe 1915 and was certainly here by 1940. any help or advice would be wonderful

Sorry,Marcie, there are no passenger lists of any crossings from Ireland to England anywhere. They were never recorded.

Thanks for your reply, Mary is proving very elusive, it seems when she arrived in England she left her past behind her, we know nothing about her, such a shame.
Have been grasping at straws for at least 25 years
but at least you have saved me looking for sailing details

Hi Marcie, have you had no luck finding Irish records for her?

Marcie, did she marry and if so do you have the marriage cert? This would at least give you her father's name. Do you know where in Ireland she came from and what religion she was? You can search Irish births on both Ancestry and familysearch.

Marcie...If by London Colney MH you mean the one at Frien Barnet ...(There were 2 one out in Herts ..same name) Well all the Records for Frien Barnet. including Staff appointments etc...were transferred to the London Met. Archives. in 1991.

yes I have her mariage cert, she says her fathers name was James keegan, Leitrim records have found a family with father as James and some siblings, I'm waiting to hear from them if the sibling names I have given do correspond with their findings. they cannot find a birth nor baptism for her, although she did tell us her conformation name was josephine,I find it quite strange that there
are no records of her baptism as she was Roman Catholic and the catholic church played a large part in her life. I wondered when she came over to england, but as there were no records kept, there just does,nt seem to be any trace of her before she arrived in London Colney

Mary worked at harperbury, shenley not sure about napsbury though, oddly her husbands grandfather died in the Friern Barnet hospital in 1921 I think

Marcie - what was James Keegan's occupation on her marriage certificate? Are there any clues in the witnesses names?

Have you checked the 1911 Irish census for possibles for him?

There are about 200 James Keegan's on the Irish 1911 but you can discard a large proportion based on age. There are about 12 eligible in Leitrim. If you have an occupation you could whittle it down. (That's unless he'd already come to England).

Mary has put him down as farmer, as far as i am aware the family were from the ballinamore area, it would be so nice just to find an written word of her, yours and Potty's imput is making me think, so that in its self is good lol, but as I say have been looking for years and possibley just go over what I had before,
without looking outside of the box

Marcie....It may help (if you havent already checked) try contacting the Church where she married...The Church Registers often hold details of the Church where she was Baptised..depends on PP but it was usually the normal for the PP to add Baptismal and Confirmation Details to the Marriage entry in the Reg.

she married in england, I have tried to locate a catholic church in ballinamore but with out any luck, I,ll have another look. really appreciate the help you have given

There's a birth for a Mary Ellen Keegan registered in Mohill 1914, parents James Keegan & Lizzie Moran. They married 1911, James father's a William and Lizzie father a Francis

Marcie...If she married in England it would be that Church you would be after looking for the above details although she "may" have come from Ballinamore she may not have been Baptised there...
The RC Church is St.Patrick's High St Ballinamore.....

I am of the mind the Surname for Catherine is mistranscribed...Have cross ref.her and name is spelt .Keegan
