I am a platinum member and have just signed up to military records only to find that I cannot trace the person who I know fought from 1914 to 1918 and received 2 medals. Why is this? Should I have subscribed elsewhere?

They are on Ancestry

The other thing to bear in mind is that around 65% of WW1 records were destroyed during WW2

His medal records should be on Ancestry or on the National Archives site - did he survive the war?

Bear in mind that GR do not have any records which aren't taken from other sites...........mainly FMP, which is owned by the same parent company

That's why hardly anyone uses the site for research............but merely for the message boards, which are its main value
