Hello,

I have two tree's on Ancestry, one is for my partners father's side of the family, then i recently started a new on, but on his mums side of the family...what i would like to know is, is there anyway i can merge the 2 tree's together? or am i just going to have to type in one family on to the other tree?

From my experience, no you can't merge them.

The best you can do is to accept your own 'Family Tree Hint' when they are fed back to you.

Correct, there is no facility within Ancestry for merging trees.

If you get yourself a tree program for your PC then you could download each of your trees and merge them on your PC using that. You can then upload the combined version back to Ancestry, or indeed GR or any other web site should you so wish.

It seems odd to have separate trees for a person's parents.............

Reggie....the reason i have 2 trees is because my partners dad asked me to do his family tree just for his side, with himself being the 'Home' person, i did this about a year ago, and have got quite far back with it, and it was easier for him to understand with it just being his side of the family. His wife died 15 years ago, i have started a tree for her family, but on her's i want to include his family, while still keeping his tree seperate.

Anyway i will start putting in all the info, which shouldn't be too difficult seeing as it is all there ready for me to just copy over,

Further to Inspectorgreenpen's suggestion.

Before Christmas (and because of the repeated error messages on this site) I called out a GEDCOM and downloaded the PAF software from the LDS site. This is only ever to be a "backup system" as my main tree is here.

The PAF software has a large help file. Herewith the words from the "managing .paf files" section. (nb the software created a .paf file from the GR GEDCOM file)

To combine the information from several .paf files into one .paf file, you use the Export feature, the Import feature, and the Match/Merge feature.
Steps
Open the .paf file that you want to add the information to. This will be your main .paf file when you are finished.
Make a backup copy of your main .paf file. This allows you to restore it if you make errors or change your mind.
Open the .paf file that contains the information that you want to move to your main .paf file.
Use the Export feature to create a GEDCOM file that contains the individuals that you want to move.
Tip: Make sure that all of the options in the Include box are selected. This assures that you will get notes, sources, multimedia links, contact information, confidential information, and so forth.

Open the .paf file that you want to add the information to.
Use the Import feature to add the information into your main .paf file.

If you have duplicate individuals, use the Match/Merge feature to merge them.
