1841 Census Bristol - missing bits?

Hi everyone,

I heard that there were some sections missing from the 1841 census for certain parts of Bristol (due apparently to mistranscription at the time). Does anyone have any more comprehensive information about this, i.e. which sections are unavailable?

The reason I ask is that we have been unable to find one of our ancestors, Thomas Newman (born around 1828, probably in Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire) in this census and it is possible that he was already in Bristol in 1841 since he got married there in 1847. (There were other Thomas Newmans in Bristol at that time but we have followed them through to later censuses and confirmed that they were not him.). The other possibilities are, of course, that his name has been mistranscribed or that his family were hiding under the table when the census man came - some of them had already had some run-ins with the law!!
