Tree view requests

Just lately I've had a number of different requests to view my tree, sometimes with a name they want to look at and sometimes not. However when I ask what their interest in my tree is I get no further reply. None of these requests come with access to their trees open.
Is anyone else experiencing this ?

Quite a few, apparently.

It could be that there are a lot of new members who aren't aware of the etiquette, and it has been suggested on other threads that they have used the GR default message of asking to see your tree with no other addition.

Other's where you've sent a reply, probably shrug their shoulders at a 'wrong match' and move on without acknowledgement.

As a long standing member, you've probably already checked if your reply has been read. For those who aren't aware, if you were to view your 'sent' message box, those still unopened with have the symbol of a closed envelope next to it, which disappears when read.

My latest one of those messages was yesterday. My response was along the lines of "No info, no tree."

I fail to understand why GR set up the message system this way. I have previously posted about this on another thread. The Subject Box should open with the name/year of the person whom the writer is interested in. (Or empty) And the Message Box should at most just have a salutation (eg "Dear")

I find that where the writer has taken the time to explain the reasons for their initial message - and occasionally opened their tree for good measure -, then if my reply is in the negative (no match, etc) I get a final "Thanks".

Not too sure these requests are from newbies, my latest request today was ; "Please would you give me access to view your tree or provide some information on XXXXXXX, born in 1751 in Surrey. It's just she appears to have lived at the same house as one of my ancestors."

??

My ancestor born in 1751 was born in Northamptonshire, how could she appear to have lived in a house in Surrey, unless of course, GR has suggested a match to this person disregarding the fact that one was born in Surrey and one in Northants.

I don't know if this is pertinent or not - but I have recently received emails from GR (personal email address) notifying me of potential matches - the email calls them 'Family Trumps' - seem like the previously known 'Hot Matches'. Perhaps there is a new method of matching and other members are following them up - hence a flurry of requests to view?

I also find them annoying i get 3-4 automated requests a week i just ignore them now i wish genes would stop them if no one can be bothered to send me a message themselves i do not answer them,

I think the hot match system needs an overhall. I have not had one for over a year and the ones I have tried to contact (4) do not seem to exist now as they do not open their e-mail They may or may not still be members. A system needs to be put in place to correct this Have not quite worked out the use of this Family Trumps. The best part of GR is the Community. The one reason I renewed. Do not use all the new additions

The hot match system is still working but only checks 50 random names from your tree. Your home page should tell you when hot matches were last run on your tree and whether any were found.

Well something isnt quite right cos for the second time in a couple of months I got an email from Genes telling me I have 10 unopened emails and I was maybe missing some exciting family contacts.

I DONT have any unopened emails . I always reply to any received that need a response .
