I found a Sarah Ward ages ago, but didn't think it was my Sarah!
I found an Edwin Woolley marriage to a Emma Hootton or Horton and thought this was the same guy!

Sarah was not in service to the Wards as she was recorded as daughter.
I suspect she might have been born to Ceclia Middleton and Edwin Woolley but they never married, as she seems to be the Sarah in 1881 with Cecilia still a Middleton.
Just speculation though!

This is all very interesting!! I wonder though if Sarah aged 13 was in service to the Wards, but George was a witness at her wedding!
It all seems to fit with what Grandad used to say!

I can't see a marriage for a Celia/Cecilia Middleton to an Edwin Woolley - but it very much looks like we have found her doesn't it.

Oh lord it looks like my old grandad was right. He insisted there was a Cecelia and her last name was Middleton, in the picture!

Edwin Woolley whoever he might be is down as a labourer.

My Grandad used to talk about his gradmother being in service in Melbourne and finding her photo on a pub wall! Sadly I do not have the photo and he died a few years ago! :-)

Well, it looks like the Woolley/Ward family is the right one.
Now we know that, it seems a good idea to look for Cecilia and Sarah in 1881.

Thanks! Willie is my grandad!! with his siblings Ida, Harry, I do not remember a Lily May. Sarah's husband was William Taylor aged 20 at the time of the marriage
Willie (Bill) as he was known always used to talk about a Cecelia from Leicester!
This is very interesting!
Field Head Terrace Belper is on the marriage cert, and yes he was a fish hawker.
Also Sarah was living at King Street Belper
The witnessess were George Ward!! and a Hannah Blount.
But who is Edwin Woolley who is on the marriage cert and deceased!!!

Hello Susan, is there an address given for Sarah Ann on the marriage certificate?

Who were the witnesses?

Did it give a former occupation for her father?

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 26 Jan 2013 15:21

Have you found Sarah and husband 1911 Susan? You could do with her birthplace.

Sue Report 26 Jan 2013 15:15

I believe the above to be my GG grandfather. He is on my g grandmothers marriage certificate as deceased in 1902. Sarah Ann Woolley (his daughter) 23 married William Taylor 20 at St Peter's Church Belper Derbys in Sept 1st 1902.

I am looking for Edwin's wife and family. There are lots of puzzles.
Also looking for Sarah Ann's place of birth. Current family chat claims she was in service in Melbourne Derbys, but there are an awful lot of Sarah Ann Woolleys out there!
Anybody got any ideas :-S
Thanks Sue
