Thought there might be an officers file for him at the National Archives. Just checked the index though and it seems as though he might have served after March 1922, so his records will still be with the MOD.

The rank on the card is definitely 2nd Lieutenant, by the way!

Lewisham fits for a marriage - he was resident in Dacre Gardens Brandram Road Lewisham in 1921 - this is the address on the electoral roll and also where his WW1 medals were sent

this record does not match any other but i think this one below is mistranscribed because it appears to link this marriage with marriages that are registered in Greenwich and the page number image is very poor

Hi Roy
Thanks for the reference to divorce papers - I hadn't found any reference to a marriage for him at all

OldYorkshireBloke

OldYorkshireBloke Report 27 Jan 2013 14:41

Thanks for that Roy.
I think you may have it - just looked at your reference and at the magnified picture of the card again I dont't think it is Y I think it is 2/ whick makes it Second Lieutennant. then his rank of Lieutennant and then Acting Captain

Many Thanks

Porkie_Pie Report 27 Jan 2013 14:36

The record/numbers eg "second" would be in roman numerals "II" so i suppose badly written could look like a letter (Y)

I think 'A' might mean acting Captain? (According to military-mad hubby!). No idea re. the 'Y' though.
EDIT snap!

I assume the A is Acting Captain , can't think what Y might stand for.

Maddie

Maddie Report 27 Jan 2013 13:23

looks like Y Lieutenant, then Lieutenant and then A/Captain

Hello, I wonder if someone would be kind enough to have a look at Jack Framingham Fox's WW1 Medal Rolls Index Card re his award of the 1915 Star. there is a reference to his rank at the time but Iam not sure what it is - something Lieutennant?

Many Thanks
