I currently use Roots Magic to add family members and to export gedcoms.
But I am wondering, are there better softwares that do a better job than Roots Magic.

Basically, what software is more pro and better in all?

Roots Magic or My Heritage Family Builder?

I also use Roots Magic, very happy with it, I thought it was more user friendly than some of the others.

A popular one is Family Tree Maker, but I didn't like it.

Try googling for "genealogy software"...

Many of them have a trial you can use, up to 100 names I think.

I tried most of them, thought RM was the best.

I use Roots Magic and I am very happy with it. I used it to export a gedcom only yesterday. Before this I used Family Origins which was designed by the designer of RM. This has now been taken over by Family Tree Maker.

Thanks for the opinions. I have checked reviews and comparisons but I just wanted to see peoples up front opinions. I also use Roots Magic, and will probably stick to it, I just wanted an opinion. Roots Magic is more friendly which is good.

Its all down to personal preference in the end. When I started out over ten years ago I trialled most of what was available at the time but in the end settled for Family Tree Maker.

There are two versions available which are in effect totally different programs. FTM 2006, the last release of the 'old' program was replaced by a completely new program in 2008, but is still available for around £8.

Current version is FTM 2012 but earlier releases i.e.2010/2011 can still be found.at discounted prices.
