Do you actually know that the ashes were collected ?

Most crematoriums are just that, and ashes are scattered or interred in a garden of remembrance or kept by a family member.

Not all gardens of remembrance are attached to the crem/cemetary.

Not all ashes are ever collected by the family and can often be left at the discretion of the undertakers to scatter (I did this with my mother as at the time I just did not know what to do with her - years later when doing this family research I realised I could have put her with her mother!!).

So I think that the Crematorium may be able to confirm that a cremation took place, but not much else. That is all dealt with by the undertakers. If you are lucky they will have all the names, family and undertakers held within their records.

If it helps, the page of the Cremation register on which my grandparents cremations are listed 1970 & 1983 has the following headings

-Register number
-Date of Cremation
-Name, Residence and Occupation of deceased
-Age and Sex
-Whether married or unmarried
-Date of death
-Name and Address of person who applied for cremation
-Name and Address of persons signing certificate - not sure if this the cause of death certificate issued by the doctors/coroner, or the permission to cremate certificate
-District where death has been registered
-How ashes were deposed of – the entries on these particular pages give ‘burial’, date and where within the garden of remembrance the ashes were scattered.
-By whom ceremony performed
-Receipt no.
-Remarks.
