	Yes, I also received my dads medals - grandson insists I keep them for him when he is bigger - so proud to tell his class at school during his family project day.

Member Since: March 2003 Posts: 7,819 Send Message	Yes, they were given a card - like a post card - which they had to sign and send off. My father declined to send for his, and handed his card back. When we applied for copies of his service records a couple of years ago I also asked if it was possible to obtain his medal. They sent me the original medal request card which had lain in his file for over 60 years which I then signed and sent off.

	Members in the UK may have seen the item on The One Show this evening about WW2 medals. I didn't realise that members of the armed forces had to apply for their campaign medals (I thought they were issued automatically) and many didn't bother. These can still be claimed by the recipient or his/her descendants, and the RAF is getting about 200 requests a week. They didn't say so, but it probably applies to the Army and Navy as well.
