Lancashire Ann, I think you have got it, the Alfred I think is her husband and the Alan their son. I blew up the cemetery record of Alfred and that COULD be a very blurred 1962 instead of 1942. Naylor Street is a residence of my Stirrup families. Also the birth you just put up is the one I just found, probably giving Stirrup as her name at the death.

Thanks again all of you :-D :-D :-D

PS I have just booked myself in for any eye test lol!!!!

witness on that 1926 marriage is a Samuel Stirrup (and Sarah Jordan)

which would also fit with this

Name: Phyllis Stirrup
Birth Date: 4 Mar 1909
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1980
Age at Death: 71
Registration district: Manchester
Inferred County: Greater Manchester
Volume: 38

Found on Ancestry birth index a phylis stirrup born 1909 and died 1980. Perhaps she was born a Stirrup and never married. Just need to find her on the 1911 census then. I know I am a pain but there are so many kind people on here.
Thanks again :-S

Thanks for all replies, sorry got called away from the computer for a while.

I have the cemetery record of this Phyliss Stirrup, she died in 1930 when she was 70 years old. She was in the grave of another Stirrup family of mine. My gg aunt and uncle, Samuel and Priscilla Stirrup, (this Phylis is older), also an Alfred Stirrup born about 1879, cant seem to find him either, and died 1942 aged 63, and an Alan Aka Alan Stirrup Fagan (not got a clue!) died aged 6 in 1958. I was presuming that she had married a Stirrup, no idea of his first name. Any marriage would probably been in the Manchester area where the grave is as all my Stirrups are. Samuel and Priscilla were born 1872.

***I have just blown up the cemetery record but the date is blurred, the year could possibly be 1980, making Phyliss born about 1910???

Thanks so much for all your help.

How about 'Flossie'?

Rambling

Rambling Report 10 May 2013 17:45

Could it be Florence? there's a death for a Florence Stirrup in 1930, a marriage of Florence Howgate to Frederick Stirrup in 1886 and a birth for her 1860?

but if you have a definite record for Phyllis, then it can't be :-)

MarieCeleste Report 10 May 2013 17:34

Another question! Does it specifically say she was 70, or in her 70th year (which would mean she was 69)?

This one is listed as a child in 1906, so doubt it's her:

UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960

Name: Phyllis Stirrup
Port of Departure: Montréal, Québec, Canada
Arrival Date: 18 Aug 1906
Port of Arrival: Liverpool, England
Ports of Voyage: Montreal [Quebec]
Ship Name: Empress of Ireland
Shipping Line: Allan Line

Travelling with Alice Stirrup, presumably mother.

EDIT: They are listed as being English.

I can't see a death registration on freebmd for a P* Stirrup in 1929-1931

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 10 May 2013 17:08

Hi Marilyn - do you know that Stirrup was definitely a married name?

If so, do you know who the husband was?

EDIT: Can you give us any other info like where the cemetery is, does it give an exact date of death, etc, is there anyone else in the grave?

Strange!!

I've looked on freebmd, and can't see anything.

Have you had any success finding her as Phyliss Stirrup on th 1911 or earlier census??

Is it possible that she did not marry Mr Stirrup, but lived common-law?

ooops ................ didn't read OP thoroughly!

You have looked on censuses and cannot find her. Sorry!

MarilynB

MarilynB Report 10 May 2013 16:52

Not having much luck in finding a marriage of a Phyliss to a Stirrup (surname). Just wondered if anyone knew of an alternative name to Phyliss, she was born around 1860 and according to her cemetery record, was 70 when she died in 1930. Cant find her in any censuses either.

Any help with Phyliss alternatives would be appreciated.

Thanks

Marilyn
