In the 1901 census an ancestor of mine says he was born in Sedgley Staffordshire and he is aged 22. I can not find a birth record for this time in this area but there are some in other areas of Staffordshire. Does anyone know if Sedgley could be any other registration district.

His name is William Beech. In the 1901 census he is living as a boarder with Mary but a couple called Richard & Sarah A Poyner in Woverhampton. Richard & Sarah had a daughter called Mary whose husband was William. Seems strange they are down as boarders but I am pretty sure it is the right family. It is showing William is 22 and as I said born in Sedgely, Staffordshire.

If you follow GB's link, you'll see the answer is that any part of 1901 Sedgeley was in 1879 Sedgeley (but not vice versa), so should be in 1879 Dudley RD.

One possibility is that he's taken his step-father's name, or that his parents were unwed when he was born, and his birth is rego'ed under another surname, namely his mother's surname of the time.

William Beech married Mary Poyner in 1899 in Wolverhampton. I have a copy of their marriage certificate and his father is Richard Beech. Unfortunately though the marriage certifcate states father as Richard but deceased.

I am still trying to find a birth registration for William Beech. His marriage certifcate states he was born in 1878 in Pelsall Staffordshire. His father was Richard Beech.
Can anyone help please.

BTW I have found a marriage for Richard Beech and Hannah Golden and I am now trying to confirm whether or not these are William's parents. :-S :-S :-S :-S
