No need for apologies Cynthia. It was way back in 2010 and I managed to find my way back to the thread eventually. I do wonder if others do the same as I did back then or maybe they just forget altogether. Its good that you alert the missing ones.

There is another Vera who I haven't seen on the find ancetors boards for a while now.

My apologies Vera......don't know how I missed you. :-(

I've been sending message for several years and, looking in my Send box, I see I sent a message to another Vera in February. I guess I must have thought you were one and the same :-S

When I first requested help on Find Ancestors, I sat watching a blank sceen, waiting and hoping. Went off to make a cup of tea. Returned to a blank screen. I assumed that the replies, if any, would just pop up. Didn't realise that I had to come out and go in to My Threads. Now, of course,.I would have been kindly nudged by Cynthia.

I did eventually log out and on again and there were replies to which I responded.
I have to admit I was too impatient to read all the guidelines.

not wrong at all really - a response of some kind on the actual thread [posting] is all that is required just to let people know you have seen what has been found for you :-)

i appreciate all the help I have been given and would like to think i remember to say so on my threads but it wouldn't occur to me to thank anyone by PM unless they'd Pm ed me first . The chats are open but I believed using PM 's was too personal . Is this wrong ?

The Watched Threads function was referred to the technical team a while ago; sometimes the function works, sometimes it doesn't.

Gai Report 12 May 2013 12:31

Unfortunately the Watched Threads function doesn't work for me but glad it works for some.

Back when I first started I didn't know or understand anything about Watched Threads and I guess that's the case with a number of new posters.

Gai - we've recently worked out that the 'Watched Threads' function is working (in some cases). However, it does need a Poster to actually click on it to activate the GR notification!

Gai Report 12 May 2013 12:14

I know with my personal experience I posted a thread asking for help and then my daughter got really sick and I didn't look at GR for nearly a week.

I checked my emails and there was a message from GR that a Cynthia had sent me a message. When I logged onto Cynthia's message she told me I had replies to my thread and how to return to it. It made me feel terrible to think members where trying to help me and I didn't know..

If GR sent emails to notify a poster they had replies on their thread then more people
my return to their posts.

Apart from real life events taking up their time, and unfamiliarity with how the site works, they may think that 'helpers' are actually GR employees. Even so, an acknowledgement by PM or posting would be appreciated!

Yes Dizzi I agree,

People take a lot of time and pleasure in helping to resolve others problems/queries only to find that the thread is apparantly never returned to by the original poster.

I sometime wonder if they go back, see the results and just do not bother to say thankyou.

A sad indictment of the times we find ourselves in. Part of the 'me me me' culture. :-(
