Have you considered that he was an illegitimate child, born to a mother surname Matthews, and given the middle name of Maylark as an indication of the name of his father??

Thanks I have the info you have just sent but nowhere does anything mention the mothers name

Reggie Report 30 May 2013 11:42

As Virginia was born in 1858, I would suggest that her father was probably born before 1840

..........and there is no real reason to think that the girls didn't all have the same mother

I am really not sure, however I think it must have been England. He is recorded in Bengal India in 1858 as the father of Virginia Esther
Thanks for replying

Childrens marriages are in India

Andrew Report 30 May 2013 10:44

Where was Alexander born?

Cheryl Report 30 May 2013 10:36

I am yet again trying to find anyone who has any information on the above name
he had 4 children all girls
Virginia Esther 1858-1937
Adelaide Constance 1860-1893
Cordelia Gertrude 1865 - ?
Milvall Caroline 1870 - ?
Seeing the dates of birth of the children their might has been several wives.
Any information or help on the mother of these girls or where the father originated from would be of great help
