Reggie, are you sure that's his parents? His surname was Jones; so wouldn't that have been the name of his father (not his mother)? :-S

Have you traced his sister?

Does she know anything?

ErikaH Report 8 Jun 2013 21:40

The 'overseas section' of which site?

As stated above, there is NO cross-referencing on the GRO index.

What else do you know about the man?

Did his wife have children with him?

He could so easily be alive.....don't write him off until you're sure..lol!

Also if he has died after 2006/07 then his death record will not be on line.

The age on death certificates is not exact, it can be just guesswork by whoever notified the death, though it is probably approximate . If you can use Ancestry and know the area of the death, the Wills and Probate records give the date of death as well as the address.

Hello Jane, do you want to give us a specific example and we'll try to help you work through it?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 7 Jun 2013 22:25

If the death was after the mid-1860's , the age at death is on the index

What is the particular problem you have?

If the death was before 1911, look for the person on censuses.............then look for a death after the last one on which he/she appears, taking into account the last place of abode.................

There is nothing on any of the indices cross-referring with any other index.

Where are you searching? If you know when they were born you can narrow down the search on Ancestry.
