Info on Ancestry is not copied to Mundia and vice versa. There is only one set of data, not two. What you see on one site is the same as you see on the other.

What you have got is two alternative access portals to the same set of information.

The real issue is regarding who has access to what and via which site. Are the security and privacy arrangements on the two portals kept in sync, for example.

I'm not a paid up member of Ancestry, but have managed to gain access to some public trees on Mundia, if I go into Ancestry and check on public trees in say "Joe Blogg" I could find 15, go into Mundia and put the same name in and it will only show perhaps 6 public trees with that name (and each time will only show those 6).
I was lucky in finding a relative through Mundia who I'd lost touch with, we'd both changed email addresses and I didn't have her home address in the USA, if she hadn't had a public tree only Mundia we'd never have found each other.
I've quite a lot of research on one branch of my tree, and through Mundia, I've been able to offer it to others doing the same branch, I was asked by one gentleman how if I wasn't a member of Ancestry I was able to contact him as my message had gone thro Ancestry!
I've come across 2 people who've got one of my rellies in their fam. tree, It's quite a common welsh surname (not Jones) and an easy mistake to make, they added the rest of the g.grand parents plus all the children, (then added their fam to this) having explained that they were definitely not related, they took out the rellies name but left the rest in, grrr, my OH spent 3 weeks research their side, giving them lots of info. we had a lovely email thanking him for all the work, etc, checking Mundia recently and my rellies are still in her tree!

MC .................

I didn't think to do that. I'll give it a try when I have a little more time.

Just checked my Mundia account which shows the same messages as in my Ancestry account. But, the messages are in my message centre and would not be accessible to anyone unless they had my account details to log in with.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears that messages on Mundia are independent of trees (as they are on Ancestry and on here). My nephew and I both have trees with the same family information on Ancestry. My tree has the tightest security settings on both sites - he has his public. My brother in law also has a public tree.

I can see messages between nephew and self via Mundia, and self and bil but can't see messages between them.

Sylvia, if you do a search for your contact's tree on Mundia - can you see any of their messages on their profile?

I originally had a Public tree on ancestry, but I made it private about 6 years ago ................ that is, about 3 years after I had started it.

ALL trees that are, or were, public on ancestry are transferred over to Mundia.

Mundia is owned by Ancestry, and was started by them to provide a free option for people to see and access trees on ancestry.

You have even less control on who is taking information from your tree

As soon as I discovered that, I took the 3rd option on Mundia ..................

ie ...................
Make my profile not searchable (private), deactivate my account, and hide my trees.

Your profile will not by viewable by anyone including your family
You will not show up in your family's news, calendar updates, or recent activity
You will no longer get any email communication from Mundia
Your family trees will be hidden from anyone who isn't a part of the tree

as no one living is part of any of the 3 trees that were transferred over, no-one should be able to access them.

BUT, I did not realise that contacts between myself and the owner of another tree on ancestry would also show up on Mundia

I'm also concerned because this other person has a tree that is Private but open to lots of others, and loves to post everything (ie, no hiding of living persons), and b) loves to get all certificates from others. That's what the emails were about.

Thanks, Gai .................. it was blooming hot, but we had a fun day.

I use Mundia and Ancestry at the same time.It would appear that the contents are identical.
Make an entry on one and it will appear on the other, same with photos.and messages.
On Mundia if you have multiple trees there is a dropdown top left, just below
"your home page".

Maddie - if you have a tree on Ancestry, it 'might' also appear on Mundia!

If your Ancestry tree is totally private, there is less chance that it will be available to search for on the other site even though you may be able to see it.

excuse me if i sound a bit dim, but does that mean you have to have a tree on mundia.
I certainly don't

Maddie,

I deleted my tree on Ancestry and I'm waiting for Mundia to update and delete it. I'm wondering whether my main tree which is private on Ancestry will pop up.

Update. I've now been told that I no longer have access to my previous tree and please select a new primary tree. I have a number of trees for the Moreman name on Ancestry and the site wants me to select a tree to display.

Gai,
I deactivated my account on there as i has made some gross errors when I first started. I would like to delete it but would it have any effect on the now amended tree on ancestry.
I would be interested in the result if you do do it

Looked at my Mundia account and like you Sylvia there were all the messages I had sent and received there and Ancestry.

i wasn't aware these would be accessible on the site.

The tree that Mundia has linked to my account is my original tree which has 36 people on it so I'm tempted to delete the tree to see what happens.

Oh crap, off to Mundia I go.

BTW Happy Canada Day Sylvia.

I went on to the Mundia site to check something for some one

I'm a member on there because I have my tree on ancestry.

BUT .............. my account is deactivated, hidden, full privacy, so I have to reactivate it every time I wish to see something.

I discovered that emails and pms sent to me through ancestry several months ago ................. also appeared on Mundia

Does that mean that the person who sent those emails, and my response(s) to them, if s/he has not deactivated their Mundia account(s) .......

................. then the emails and responses will be showing up under their account for anyone to see?????
