And have you proved that Annie Woodyet married someone named Goodchild before 1916?

EDIT

She wasn't born until 1900...........................so the theory is unlikely, at best

kelly

kelly Report 15 Jul 2013 14:39

Yes it does, although where the M comes from I do not know. Yes became Ellen Stapleton

greyghost

greyghost Report 15 Jul 2013 14:38

Your opening post says there are lots of similar ways to spell the surname, but you are now saying it has always been spelt Woodyet - you have to be open minded

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 15 Jul 2013 14:38

Look at the 1911 yourself.......check the image.

kelly

kelly Report 15 Jul 2013 14:37

It is Woodyet and her marriage witness was an Annie Goodchild and Annie was down on the 1901 census as being as her sister. So I am sure the first census is correct.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 15 Jul 2013 14:35

How does Ellen M equate to Ellen Elizabeth?

Marriages Sep 1916 (>99%)

Stapleton Alfred J Woodyet Watford 3a 1585
Woodyet Ellen M Stapleton Watford 3a 1585

kelly

kelly Report 15 Jul 2013 14:34

She was born in Burton-on- Trent. Her father was Arthur Woodyet so that fits with the earlier census.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 15 Jul 2013 14:33

Try saying the surname............then consider that many people couldn't spell their own names..........

greyghost

greyghost Report 15 Jul 2013 14:31

Always look at the original - the surname could well be WoodYet, taking into account the handwriting of the person who completed the census, which in turn is transcribed by someone else and appears with the G.
Forenames age, place of birth all match

So who was her father?

How old was she when she married?

Why do you think she 'went' to Watford?

She could have been born there............

And always allow for spelling differences on census transcriptions

kelly

kelly Report 15 Jul 2013 14:27

I don't think that is her.... it has always been spelt Woodyet. I know in 1916 she married in Watford, Hertfordshire.
I am interested in all the family, very interested there is just something not quite right with Ellen Elizabeth.

greyghost

greyghost Report 15 Jul 2013 14:23

The 1911 census shows she wasn't living with her family as posted earlier

I found her on 1911 census by inputting her name to include varients, her county of birth and year of birth =/- 2 years

greyghost

greyghost Report 15 Jul 2013 14:20

So you only want info on 1 member of the family, so much for the other work.

Ellen( WOODGET) (FMP)is on the 1911 census in Leicester as a Kitchen maid. Perhaps she continued as a maid and found employ where she could.

Perhaps she was employed in some sort of war work

It was cheaper to read one set of banns for a marriage than 2 so often couples addresses would be the same on a MC

kelly

kelly Report 15 Jul 2013 14:16

I am assuming that's means she wasn't on the 1911 census as still living with her family. Please could somebody tell me how I check the 1911 census for another family so I can see if she was living with them then?

William served Army WW1 and returned home having previously served in RN and Invalided out
Fred died of wounds or was Killed in action between 1-5 July 1917
Possibly Arthur and Dick also served but only Medal Cards showing

kelly

kelly Report 15 Jul 2013 14:04

Thank you for your replies.... It is Ellen Elizabeth I am interested in. She married in Watford, Hertfordshire in 1916 but her address in Watford was the same as the man she married... I am trying to see why she went to Watford. She has no occupation listed on her marriage certificate.
