You could also try Forcesreunited and search by location (RAF Little Rissington) and the years of your father-in-law's national service

You may be lucky enough to find someone on there who knew him, and, by default, his comrades

The best way to deal with old photographs is to take a photo of them with a good digital SLR camera using the RAW format.
This will allow them to be edited using the full range of tools available in professional programs such as Adobe Photoshop.
Scanning them will only give you limited capability.

Thank you DC have not been on this site for a while as there is still so much to sort out .Have scanned some of the photos and shown them to family members who are enjoying reminiscing and trying to identify them .I will try the sites suggested and see if any else has any memories. A good reason to write on photos as we do not know who many of the people in them are

A little bit of advice about these photos.

Where possible if not already done, do write on the back who, what, where and when.
And scan them all to your computer, that way you will never lose them. And you can then, play around with them as well.

I was loaned a load of family photos and have scanned them all, and made 'portrait' copies from group photos as well. So useful to attach to trees. Love having a photo of a family member makes the tree look so much more personal.

The RAF museum at Hendon may also be able to offer help. If you do not live to far away could be a good place to arrange a visit and guidance on the photos. ;-)

Perhaps you could get in touch with the Friends of Little Rissington at this site:-

http://www.raflittlerissington.com/

Perhaps they could help you identify some of the places/people in your photographs.

My father in law has recently died .My husband will inherit everything and we have been looking through photographs> We have discovered a tin containing photos from the late 1940's early 50's, some of them taken during f-I-l National Service in the RAF based at Little Rissington the rest taken around Essex where he was born. I was wondering if there is any site where I could gain any more information about these photos. Thank you for any help you can give
