Also some cemetary records have been transcribed and are sold by the 'friends of' that cemetary.
Those records will never appear on the National Burial Index as they are a great source of income at £10.00 per search/name. Arnos Grove in Bristol is a prime example.

It's next to useless for non-conformist burials and not so good for municipal cemeteries. It's mainly for Church of England burials in churchyards. My lot were either non-conformists - or heathens - so I found it no good at all.

Doesn't someone on Find Ancestors do look-ups of the NBI?

I would advise you to read up about the NBI here .......
http://www.ffhs.org.uk/projects/nbi/nbi-overview.php

Here's a snippet from the FFHS about the NBI ..........

Although coverage in terms of years and locations is now much more extensive, there are still gaps because not all family history societies are able or willing to join the project due to restrictions to access records, a lack of volunteers, or other commitments.

Progression...........

As an ongoing project, further collections of records are encouraged and continue to be received by the FFHS Data Managers.
The First Edition contained 5.4 million, the Second 13.2 million, and the recent Third Edition containing over 18.4 million covering some 9100 burial locations in 50 counties. (See map and county tables).

Burials for the NBI are added cumulatively so that all should appear in each edition. However, this is not always the case since contributors sometimes change or even delete records during their regular record-validation of previous files.............

I purchased the 1st edition many years ago & found a nice lot of my ancestors, but not all purchasers of the NBI have been so lucky or satisfied with it,all depends I suppose if the areas you are looking at have been covered! take a look at the site to see what they have to say re coverage etc.

Joan.
