well, it was set up by ancestry in the first place!

and all trees that had been Public at any time were moved over to it without warning, even if they had been changed to Private

so it meant that those of us who tried to protect our trees from piracy and relative collectors had them exposed again!

Mundia has always been an Ancestry site

SIC & Ricochet.

I have been aware of the connection between the 2 sites for some time hence why I have no trees on line anywhere.

As I saw on one of the boards that it was suggested as an alternative site in the posters search, I thought it may be of use to the Helpers on these boards in case they were not aware of the changes.

it has been suggested as a site where those who do not have a sub to Ancestry MIGHT be able to see information ................

but you might also have seen that most helpers also make a caveat when talking about Ancestry trees ....................

that the information on them cannot be trusted because very few of them have any documentation to prove what is shown, and that many people just copy information fromtrees without carefully double checking.

I think I first heard of the closing of Mundia about a month ago, in early June, and there was a thread about it around that time ...........

but thank you for posting this so everyone can see the information again.

I don't think trees were ever moved as such. It was simply that existing Ancestry Trees were made accessible through the Mundia web portal.

However, the concern was that access controls across the two sites may not have been fully synchronized, although evidence to prove or disprove this theory is scant.

That said I could never really see the point of having another 'product' which didn't really offer any additional benefits.

Ancestry are 'closing' down a couple of their 'free' sites such as Mundia.
