Hi all.
I have a incident of these two being in Newcastle Assiszes on the 30th of June 1877 both were aquitted .Does anyone know to which Thomas and Pattison Newton should this be affixed .

The prisoners were father and son, Pattison was a pit worker. They were charged with feloniously wounding James Steel, a blacksmith. It was a very violent assault with 10 wounds inflicted on the victim's head some down to the skull.

There is also an article Newcastle Courant 25 March 1870 with the same 2 names mentioned.

They were charged along with William England and William Robson, pitmen of Walbottle, with 'trespassing in pursuit of conies' on land belonging to the Duke of Northumberland.
The case was dismissed as they were found to have permission to be on the land by the tenant farmer but they did not have permission to be in the woods.

Thank you so much alviegal .As you can see by the names they are from my family.Pattison is a name which runs right through the family.That is excellent news thank you.
It could be Thomas who was my 2x great grandfather and Pattison Taylor Newton his eldest son.I am so very grateful

Hi Alivegal.
You are spot on that is my 2x Great grandfather Thomas and his eldest son Pattison

I have family in Australia who wont be to happy to find out about this.
But never mind
