A search on Google suggests that the ship docked in Brisbane, Australia on 16 March 1950 and by September of that year was back out to Sydney.

Have you looked for the person by name on the GRO overseas deaths list?

No, thank you. Thought there must be such a thing but did not know what it would be called or where to find it

7. Death abroad
You must register a death with the local authorities in the country where the person died. In many countries you will also have the option to register the death with the UK authorities.

============

The countries where you cannot register the death with the UK authorities include all the former colonies with dominion status, viz, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Newfoundland, South Africe.

from ancestry

UK, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960

Port of Departure: Brisbane, Australia
Arrival Date: 8 May 1950
Port of Arrival: London, England
Ports of Voyage: Brisbane
[Sydney]
[Melbourne]
[Adelaide]
[Colombo]
[Bombay]
Ship Name: Maloja
Search Ship Database: View the 'Maloja' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Shipping line: Peninsula and Orient Steam Navigation Company Ltd
Official Number: 145437

From this, it looks as though the body could have been put on board in Australia, or possibly in Colombo (Ceylon) or Bombay (India)

Kim, I have looked at Results for Deaths At Sea, 1781-1968 on fmp but cannot find anyone deceased on the 8th of May.

Are you able to provide a name?

The vessel arrived on the 8 th may

Would think if the person was transported back as deceased then they won't be listed as a passenger
Sadly they would carried as cargo probably in a refrigerated hold
