Thanks for this. It has helped me. I knew an ancestor in the army had died in India and had found out that his regiment was there between 1828 and 1840 which narrowed the dates a bit, but I had never found his death. It didn't appear to be on Familysearch or FMP.

I hadn't come across the fibis site before but gave it a try after seeing it on this thread and found a probate record for him :-D :-D :-D

It doesn't give a date of death but it gives a probate date of Jan 1835 so he probably died in the second half of 1834. I'm as sure as I can be that it is my man because his mother and brother are named.

Isn't it satisfying when another loose end is tied up?

The British Library hold the India records.

Familysearch has a few Indian records.
Also try www.fibis.org.
Googling will give you some more ideas.

Anyone have access or know of where to go to search for ancestors/relatives in India please? :-S
