I am a descendent of Robert and have just rechecked his christening 02/09/1781 and should have said Hannah later was known as Ann.

Roberts eldest child John was christened in Adstock 25/05/1800

I will never know exactly why William was apparently never christened but thank you to everyone who helped.

Thank you for the suggestions. I know I'll never have concrete proof of what happened I just wondered what others thought.

He died before they could arrange it? He was baptised privately, perhaps by the parents or some other person, but not recorded in the PR? The relevant page on the PR is missing?
Without an eye witness/time machine, you'll never know.

Apologies if I sound a bit vague I haven't looked at this family for a couple of years and so can't remember why I made the notes I did.

I have a baby in my tree William Clarke 1784-1785. I appear to have made a note against his birth saying December. I have an exact date of death 07/01/1785. I do however have no christening record for him which makes him the only one of the children not christened and the parents John and Hannah had 9 children.

Does anyone have any ideas why William wasn't christened?
