Sally, you said originally that you had found the family on the 71 census with children James 10, Mary Jane 8, Charlotte 6 and Fred 2 but surely that was the 81 census and George was 35 not 27 as you stated.

Thank you to you all. Can I ask how did you find all this? I explained earlier that I have only standard membership for genes reunited, would I be able to see all this information if I upgraded to Platinum?

Just to confuse things there's also this 1871 census. Her name was transcribed Nancy but looks more like Mercy on original and someone has also added the name Mercy Wheeler.

I meant to put place of birth was Iping, county of Midhurst, Sussex.

Sally

Sally Report 12 Apr 2017 21:54

George Jackson was born on 1st September 1844. I have his birth certificate. He appears on the 1861 census, he is 17 and a farm labourer. He gets married at age 19 in 1863, then he appears in 1871 census age 27 with his wife Mercy and a son, James 10, daughters Mary Jane 8 and Charlotte 6 and son Fred 2. I cant find him in 1881 census nor his wife. I am guessing that George died and possibly Mercy went to live with other family. But Mercy appears in 1911 census aged 64 and living with son Fred, now 33, and his family. Mercy is said to be a widow but her name is now Brooker, So I am assuming she has been widowed again. I would like to find out George's death and if he died a young man and then of course the cause of death.
Many many thanks for your offer of help. I was also wondering if I should upgrade to Platinum membership, would that give me more information to se?, I only have standard at the moment, as I have only just started.
Sally. :-)

Sally

Sally Report 12 Apr 2017 20:18

Can anyone tell me please why I cannot find my relative in certain census years e.g I can find him in 1871 and 1881 but then not in 1891. I realise he must have died but how do I find his death? I have found several people with the same name around the time that I am guessing he died, but how do I know it is the same man. :-(
