	You don't need to know the mother's name. To order online ( https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/menu.asp ) , you do need to know the child's forename and surname , the year and quarter in which the child was born,the registration district in which the child was born , and also the registration reference numbers (volume and page). You can find out these mandatory details by looking up the child's birth on the GRO website, or on Ancestry, FMP or other genealogy website. "If you are unable to complete the mandatory fields, then you will not be able to apply online and you will need to follow our telephone ordering process.
