Good evening all!
Just wondering how you deal with child whose mother doesn't register the father of the baby or the child comes up as stepchild but there is no marriage record before the current one.
I've had a few examples - just don't know what the format used for genealogy is
Thank you

If the father isn’t officially named, you enter the child as the mother’s offspring and leave the father as unknown

If the baby is a boy and the mother knows who the father is, she may well have named him after the father, with the father's surname as the boy's middle name.

Of course you need some other confirmation, such as DNA results, to be certain.

If the mother isn't married when the child is born then you enter the child's surname as that of the mother's. If the child goes on to take the surname of a stepfather then you can enter this in the notes panel (pop out on the right hand side of screen). If the child was always known by the stepfather's surname from very young then use that surname but put the birth name (mother's) in the notes panel.
