Please could anyone tell me if there are any free sites that I can access, for the Middlesex area.
Trying to help someone locate info on the Figgett and Ashwell families from around that area.
Many thanks.

A lot depends on when you are looking for.

Best start would be with the births/marriages/deaths on www.freebmd.org.uk
there is also ww.freereg.org.uk if you want the parish registers and again with www.freecen.org.uk where you may pick up a census.

There is the family search site but not necessarily for recent events.

Also - use the Search/Search all members trees on the top right. YOu may be able to connect with other people with those famillies in their trees.

Doing all that would be a good start.

Good luck

By clicking on "search all records" on Findmypast for the surname Figgett in Middlesex there are 343 results.

Do you have any dates or first names?

Thank you.
I'm searching William Henry Figgett b. 1805 Middlesex d. 1874 and he is believed to have married Ann Ashwell b.1806 Middlesex d. 1867.

Have you tried freereg?

Have you looked at the GRO site for births of any children after 1837? (To verify wife’s maiden name). EDIT. There seem to be at least 4 children born in that time-scale, and their births are on freebmd, so they will be easy to find on the GRO index, which is FREE

William Henry Figgett died in Shoreditch district

Looks like him with family in 1841 in Clerkenwell, transcribed as Feggett on FMP

Ann was recorded as being 62 when she died in 1867

Thanks all.
I'm just starting to have a look on the freereg site.

A friend is trying to trace his family back a bit further and appears to be stuck at William and Ann.
I think I have the following children now-
Caroline Amelia 1836
Emma 1828
Mary Ann 1831
Sarah Ann 1838
Louisa Lydia 1845
Maria 1849
William James 1842.

Think he was trying to find any info of William Figget and Ann Ashwell parents/ grandparents.

Thanks for all the help so far, I will keep searching with info given.

If Marie was asking for the free sites then wasn’t she planning to do the research herself?

ErikaH

All that has been done is to confirm the maiden name of the wife, of which the poster was not 100% certain!!! I’m sure she will say if the help is unwelcome

Some people must surely enjoy the hunt themselves - just need pointing in the right direction.

If you live in England and are reasonable near a library it might be worth phoning them and finding out if they have free acess to Ancestry and Find my Past. I fear that we may lose the libraries if we don't keep using them.

The person being helped by the poster can do that ;-) ;-)
