Yes sadly I agree , how very sad.

ErikaH Report 6 Feb 2023 22:38

That is really unusual, and the birth was re-registered in 1944, still with no MMN.

Your speculation about the wee soul being abandoned seems a distinct possibility

Florence61

Florence61 Report 6 Feb 2023 22:07

Its the same on Free BMD

How about telling us the name so we can have a look - for curiosity, if nothing else

I for one, wouldn’t use GR for records……..

When i looked up the birth on here, it gave a full name and then under mothers maiden name, it said "unknown", just never come across this before.

No I dont think im related but the surname is a family surname and i wanted to check out their details and see which family name they were related to, thats all.

Are you in any way related to the child?

Where did you find the birth record?
Have you seen the actual registration document?
Where was the word ‘unknown’ actually written?

Florence61 Report 6 Feb 2023 21:35

Has anyone ever come across on birth details where its says mother unknown?

I had a death which i was curious about so i looked up the birth to see what the mothers maiden name was. it was in 1929 and it said mother unknown.

Never seen this before so wonder if it could perhaps be a foundling? Maybe the child was abandoned at a hospital and the mother never came forward perhaps?
