Thank you for the info Argyllgran. That is helpful when I researched this a while back I had been led to believe that Mary had quite another surname but it was a long long time ago and during that period when lost of parties where just hopping on any bus to make their Family tree meet their needs .

I feel this is the link I've been missing which is now genuine and fits with dates place and name.

You have all been so helpful.

THANK YOU for your time and advice

The marriage record transcript on Ancestry says that Mary was single - but without seeing an image of it, we don't know if that's an accurate transcription:

Name Mary Bean

Marital Status Single

Many Thanks for the replies.

The Info I have is from FreeREG there are 3 transcripts of the same event all saying the same thing in respect of the following

Christening 26/11/1820 of George DADE in St Mary's Burgate
Father Robert Dade and I know his wife was Mary but as yet I have no firm surname for Mary...she might have been a widow .

Where it has been entered onto the Free Reg site on all three where it mentions any other details ot has the aforementioned
Notes/ Nee Bean sp.

at the moment thats as much as I have.

Yes, I agree.

However, re the previously married woman Judith thinks/hopes she might be, it would be helpful to know if similar annotations are on other Burgate baptisms.

If that's the only record with such an annotation, it would seem to imply that she had had no children under any surname, not just her maiden name.

But if all the 1820 Burgate baptisms have similar annotations, then it doesn't give any clue as to whether she'd been married before or not.

s.p. = sine probe (without offspring)

Could it mean that in her former name, there were no children

“Late’ is not the same as ‘Nee’ if records are accurate

Late should, by rights, refer to a previous married name…………….

None of the 1820 baptisms at St Mary's, Burgate, Suffolk, have images to view, on Ancestry and FS.

Are there images on FMP?

Bean seems to have been a common name in that area.

Gwyn in Kent

...or was the mother a spinster with birth surname of Bean.

Seeing the actual record often helps a lot, so more information would help please.

nameslessone

Sometimes the sp refers to 'Sponsor' or god parent.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 9 Feb 2024 14:29

Nee certainly means 'born'

Without seeing the record, it would be foolish for us to try to work out what is meant in this instance

If you wish us to help further, post the name of the child being baptised...............also tell us which website has the record

Judith

Judith Report 9 Feb 2024 14:13

I have a Baptism in 1820 (St Mary's Burgate) which has been annotated

Nee Bean sp

Does this mean the mothers name might have been "Bean" at birth. I'm struggling a bit as it is possible his mother was married multiple times and widowed multiple times before it hits my line.

If anyone knows what this term means I'd be very grateful. Thank you
