Oh Merry, why do these rellies make ourlives so complicated!! Sometimes you have to laugh or you would cry!! looking again at cert you could be right. I have called up a list of old welsh names on the internet, but nothing fits! I have also E-mailed my address to gwen, wonder if she means how to attach a file? Hope to get her sorted out at least x

Gwen - I have sent you my email address, so you can send the cert to me when you get back............ Fuzzy - the bloke who was Carthelina (various spellings) for his childrens baptisms, was called Leonard when he got married! LOL I have just been looking at some lists of Welsh names, but nothing grabs me! The name does seem to begin with S (see ''s''hoemaker on the cert) and end in H (see Josep''h'' on the cert) Merry

No luck then Merry, never mind. Yes the groom was born in Monmouthshire (LLandogo) but married in gloucester. Think i will still throw myself at the mercy of the Gwent GRO they are more likely to be able to read welsh names than the CRO in Gloucester!! Perhaps if I offer a bribe, what you all suggest?!!

Merry Report 7 Jun 2006 10:45

Gwen....have you a scanner? Do you want to email your cert to me as well......I do a good line in not being able to read them!! (not really, but I can't do Welsh names LOL) Merry

Merry

Merry Report 7 Jun 2006 10:42

My error!!! I thought the marriage took place in Monmouthshire also!! Maybe you could still approach Gwent pleading with them that no one else is clever with Welsh names!!!! They might still be able to read it, unlike me! Lyncy turns out to be Leonard, by the way! Merry

If it was a church wedding there will be another copy of the cert in the parish records at the County Record Office. Maybe you could email them the cert and ask if they can read it and/or look at the PR copy? (if you say both the GRO and the local Reg Office have been unable to help because it's too tricky for them, you may wind them up into helping - red rag to a bull and all that!) It's the Gwent CRO you need: Gwent Record Office County Hall CWMBRAN Gwent NP44 2XH Email: gwent.records at torfaen.gov.uk (replace the at) Merry

LOL!! That's where I got Carthalina from!!! (the IGI) Lyncy looks to be the child of Richard's brother or cousin on the 1841 census. Please will you email it to me, so I can tell you that I can't read it either?!!!!!!! LOL (Can I PM you my email?) Merry
