Hi, I might be thick, but I have just read through this post & uploaded my tree to Tribal Pages. I intend to return as soon as I have access and add a visitors password, so that people can see my tree but not alter it. Am I understanding this correctly, and if so, do visitors need to knowthe password to view my tree? How does this 2 password thing work. I know I am a ditzy old granny, so please be patient with me. God bless Lyn

I love tribal pages. I was very pleased I had sent photos there when all my photos were lost on this site. Thankyou very much for the paragraph tip that will make life much easier. My tip for earlier ancestors is to add a photo of the town where they lived. You can attach it to as many people as you like and it makes the tree much easier to follow. My great grandparents owned a pub so I took a photo of it and can enjoy a cyber drink while editing. Other family members have a picture of the church they were married in. I have had a couple of contacts from America who really liked the idea.

Re ADDING MUSIC to your Tribal If you are thinking of adding music to your Tribal site, please be aware of the copyright rules that exist. I had music on mine for a short time, until I read up about copyright issues and how so many people were being sued for using music that they were innocently using on their websites (obtained from so-called Free Music sites). I have since removed it from my Tribal as it's better to be safe than sorry. If you go to Tribal main page and locate John's Demo Page there is a section in there regarding Music, how to add it, and also the copyright warnings. Some people are still using it on their sites that are password protected (as mine is) so maybe I'm just being overly-cautious about it all. But my belief is 'When in doubt, leave it out.' It's something you'd need to weigh up for yourself, though... (ps - if you do decide to put music on there, you might want to consider doing it with an On/Off button on your front page, so that visitors can choose whether to put the music on or not or switch it off when it starts driving them mad LOL)

I'd steer clear of music. Nice as it is to hear, not everyone has broadband and it slows the page-loading for viewing. Speaking personally, I hate music on websites. My PC has it's speakers turned off 99% of the time! Lx

I'm sure sometime ago I read another thread about tribal pages. I joined up after this and am really pleased with it. I am sure though that someone had put music on theirs, does anyone know how to do it? Carol

Linda Thank you for this thread. I too have a Tribal page and love the layout etc. now i have the tips, its even better. HOWEVER... I am having trouble downloading my saved tree. Everytime i do it i get a page of text of my tree! I have downloaded before with no problem, but for the last few months i can't seem to do it. I have emailed Tribal pages 7 times now and not 1 answer, so not impressed with their support. I have emailed them again just now but i won't hold my breath. So sadly i am now having to look elsewhere when my subscription run outs. I would be interested to find out if anyone else is having or had this problem. Many Thanks, Annie

I too thought this was a great idea. My tree exported from GR in about a minute! But Tribal says it can take 24 hours to import! LOL. As long as it goes there for keeping I don't care!

...and here's another one... CENTRED TEXT
to switch it on
to switch it off (NB - use this spelling of it - and it doesn't seem to work if you put just the 'c', so put word in full).
