Do you ever get the feeling you really don't want to know the answer to some questions??? What on earth is an urban sanitary district???? Jayne x

LOL Jayne, Urban Sanitary Districts existed nationally from 1875 to 1894. Their purpose was to maintain and improve public health services in urban areas, although they had more powers than Rural Sanitary Districts due to bigger problems. There are lots of descriptions of similar things on: http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/types/index.jsp Merry

I knew I shouldn't have asked - I like the mention of 'bigger' problems Merry, that conjoured up all sorts of really awful images!! Jayne x
