Hi Joy. It will work with any program but only if that program has the ability to export only those people shown in the tree not the whole file, like FTM. Carol www.genealogyprinters*com

Thank you very much Ron. I'm just about to embark on FTM and have now put your webpage in my favourites as I know I'm going to need it. All the best Donna

Hi Val They are very easy to follow and my Aussie Family say they can open them on a differnet file so they don't interfere with there tree. Sue

I knew there would possibly be a failure of the tiny url web address but the second one is hosted on our own server so that's never going to go out of date. Here's the web address again. www.genealogyprinters*com/clients/splitting_a_family_file.htm Cut and paste it into your web browser then remove the star after the word genealogyprinters and replace it with a dot. Hi Ron, Found this thread when I searched before I asked the question, I have tried to access it from both the web addresses you give First one said file out of date and second one gave a 500 error, Could you please tell me what I am doing wrong. I have just found some relatives in Australia and would love to send them some of my Tree. Many Thanks Sue

Don't forget to work on a copy of your file, export the whole file and give it a new name, that way your old file will remain intact and if you mess up you can just delete the copy file your working on and start over again with another copy. Carol www.genealogyprinters*com

I thought the Tiny URL might be broke but I've checked it and it works okay, did you remove the brackets, here's the full website address (remove star and replace with a dot). http://www.genealogyprinters*com/clients/splitting_a_family_file.htm Ron www*genealogyprinters*com
