Hi I have been on this site a couple of months now, you are normal to us i cant wait to get home from work and get on site. My partner says he is a computer widower! (he is very understanding but sometimes i have to make an effort not to use it all evening!! While we are here does any one know why i am the only one to have my name in small black letters when every one else is blue and underlined. I feel really left out ! Julia X

LOL James!! I'm not addicted, I can take it or leave I have it all under control. The ancestors that live with me are not constantly in the fore they always take a back seat!! Never have I been caught out talking to them, never have I shouted for any of them to come forward and be named.......my husband and children have my constant attention. Yeah Right - I'm deluded and a a liar!! I just don't understand my husband - when a new bit of info comes to light why does he roll his eyes up to the heaves?? whats that all about?? LOL

Hi All So, we that are addicted must have GRAS - Genes Reunited Addiction Syndrome, Syptoms include one or more of the following: Answers mmmmm......wot 'd you say? (if we say anything at all), when asked a question Pain between the shoulder blades - due to all that squinting at records. Carpel tunnel syndrome Dreaming constantly about family trees, losing relatives and panicking because the local records office is shut for redecoration. Dust gathering all over the house (except Keyboard on PC) Sitting at PC in dressing gown all day as the washing needs doing. These are to name but a few, of the many sysptoms one has. I fear there is no hope for me as I seem to have all the listed symptoms! Help? Vikki xx

Dea Report 27 Apr 2005 15:48

Thank you David, GDS ?? - I like it - However if I told him he had got it he would probably hope it was terminal - that way, once gone, he would probably get more of my attention. Sad isn't it? Dea xxx

Dwaffy Report 27 Apr 2005 15:43

It’s bad news I'm afraid Dea. Your husband is suffering from Genealogical Dysfunction Syndrome. (GDS). This has only been recognised by the medical profession in the last five years. Symptoms included:- Involuntary tutting when a spouse or partner approaches a computer keyboard. Starts all sentences with the words 'Are you still.. ? Tendency to go through the household accounts with a fine tooth comb, querying every small cheque payment in multiples of £7 Gets up at 0630 to meet the postman, and throws letters addressed to spouse/partner onto the breakfast table, with a mad glint in the eye and the phrase, 'Not again!!!'. Occasionally trips the main power switch, saying 'Oh dear, I think a fuse has blown. Refers to all those brave people who lived, died and suffered so later generations can walk the earth as 'all those dead people'. There is no known cure. A temporary respite is sometimes gained by the application of tenderness and special treats, but the effect is transient. dave

What worries me about all this is that I started this thread over a month ago and I have got worse, not better. Hubby is still worried, the dust lies even thicker - can't see out of the windows now and the washing is piling up again! The trouble is - I don't really care - I am 'hooked' ! Where will it all end? Hi there everyone, Having just read all through the replies, its great to know I am not alone. Luckily I have a very understanding hubby and he does not mind one bit, maybe because it keeps me off his back. Anyway I am really enjoying pulling skeletons out of the cupboards, tracing both our families. Happy hunting everyone. Anita xx

Angela Report 27 Apr 2005 14:52

Yes, we are all quite real - and so were our dead people when they were still alive!! Perhaps there is an organisation that we should join like Alcoholics Anonymous where we can all stand up and say 'My name is **** and I am an anorak'.

Hi everyone, My partner is getting worried about me, sitting here till 4 am + every night/morning, then I can't get up till midday. One night I got into bed as he got out for the early shift. I blame it all on his snoring, and my fibromylagia, say it's the only way to relax before I can sleep at all, but now I've found this message board I'm even more hooked. Great to find there are loads of like minded folk out there, we're perfectly normal, just extra sociable and nosey! Wish I could find time to catch up on all my videoed progs. as well, the pile is stacking up. Have a good time everyone. Liz

well all I can say is that you have really understanding hubby's mine just sees it as a weekness, and can't understand anything about the family thing... but I keep going, stuff him (wish I could!) I have promised myself to keep away for a month or more because I was sleeping in the spare room just to be able to log on in the middle of the night (wireless)... and check.. AND, I use to go to sleep trying to dream out the numbers or dates and deaths, and hoping that in the morning it would all become clearer.... hahah so funny. But hey.. !!!! hhahaa
