Hi Vikki and Maureen Sorry I wasn't around earlier. I've had a bit of a busy day. Vikki - sounds like you're doing everything fine. No telling off's from me - I'm just as confused as you half the time! lol Maureen I'll try and go through each issue as you posted it. Doc no 4015980-00023 page 10 is blank - If another main census sheet preceded this blank page then I would key in the ED, Folio and page numbers, put an x in column H and a comment in column Y. If only summary sheets etc preceded this page then don't bother entering anything. Doc no 4015980-00024 says page 23 folio 9 schedule 1 Address is 'A house adjoining the parish of Withernwick'. The pages list 5 people with all details. Then written underneath 'Taken from book 3 of 522' - Am I right in thinking that this page is following the one above? If so, I would enter the ED, Folio, page and schedule numbers as usual. You will obviously have to abbreviate the address. Then an x in column H and a comment about the address and the note 'Taken from book 3 of 522' in column Y. Then just enter the family as usual. Doc no 4015980-00025 page 24 is blank - Am I right in thinking that it's the summary sheets for the next ED following this? If so don't bother entering it. If there is another main census page to follow, enter ED, Folio and page numbers as usual, an x in column H and a comment in column Y. Doc no 4015980-00026 is the enumeration district sheet for next area - Don't enter this. What do I do about missing folio numbers. The first enumeration district finished on folio 9 (doc no 4015980-00022 see earlier query). Folio 10 is stamped on the new enumeration district sheet (ED 2) but the next image has folio 13 (page 1) - If folio 13, page 1 is your first main census page after the declaration then that's where you start from. The numbers will go a bit out of sync because of the summary sheets. The image shows sch 4,5 do I enter as this in column E. The names are listed head and wife (with the same surname) and the third person is a different surname and description could be widower (sorry the image is a bit faint but does not say son or daughter etc). The schedule numbers then carry on okay i.e. 6 - Bit confused with this one Maureen! lol.Who is at scedule 4 and who is at 5. You can't have 2 schedule numbers on the same line in column E. Could it be that the man and wife are at one address and the widower at the next house? It could even be that the widower is a lodger with the man and wife, in which case you would change his scedule number to 0, put an x in column H and a note in column Y. Get back to me on this one and we''l work it out I hope! lol. Getting some place names that are very strange and can not find on GENIE - Slacholer or Horrinslaam - on this same faint image and I hate it when I can not suss it out. - Yes it is a pain when you can't work it out. I hate to be beaten! But don't spend too much time over it. If anything is illegible use the default hyphen, an x in the appropriate box and a comment in column Y. Hope this has helped a bit Maureen. Stick with it me duck, you're doing a grand job! Jeanette x

I think I have frightened Jeanette off as yet another query. The image shows sch 4,5 do I enter as this in column E. The names are listed head and wife (with the same surname) and the third person is a different surname and description could be widower (sorry the image is a bit faint but does not say son or daughter etc). The schedule numbers then carry on okay i.e. 6. Getting some place names that are very strange and can not find on GENIE - Slacholer or Horrinslaam - on this same faint image and I hate it when I can not suss it out. If anyone hears me volunteering to do anything then just shout NO at me as loudly as you can. Happy transcribing everyone. Mauren

I dont think so glitter - I have folio numbers on summary sheets and as we dont do anything with the summary sheets I just ignore the folio numbers on them too. I have an awful feeling someone - probably jeanette - is going to tell me that ive done it all wrong lol or shud that be boo hoo? Vikki xx

Oh dear me again. What do I do about missing folio numbers. The first enumeration district finished on folio 9 (doc no 4015980-00022 see earlier query). Folio 10 is stamped on the new enumeration district sheet (ED 2) but the next image has folio 13 (page 1). Do I record numbers 11 and 12 anywhere? Maureen

Hi I am afraid I ignored all blank pages and if I come across one out of sync like yours I just put in as I find it and put a note in the notes column about it. Oooeer.... I hope thats right! lol Vikki xx

Hi folks. Thankfully one of my questions about blank pages has been asked and answered but will still show them for the main question just to show sequence of images. Doc no 4015980-00023 page 10 is blank Doc no 4015980-00024 says page 23 folio 9 schedule 1 Address is 'A house adjoining the parish of Withernwick'. The pages list 5 people with all details. Then written underneath 'Taken from book 3 of 522' Doc no 4015980-00025 page 24 is blank Doc no 4015980-00026 is the enumeration district sheet for next area. Question - I presume I treat the two blank pages as already discussed. BUT what do I do about page 23 folio 9, and page 24, as the page numbers are out of sequence. What address do I use for page 23? Any suggestions Maureen

Hi Vikki I don't have those options. I only have Text & Commas (*.csv). I know when I try and save it as this it tells me that I will lose all my formatting. What I can tell you though is that if you save it as an Excel spreadsheet, Carol can convert it back to a .csv file. Jeanette x

Hi jeanette Could you tell me what format I am supposed to save my work in? The main options (in Excell) are: CSV (comma delimited) CSV (ms dos) There are other options but im sure its one of the above. It tends to save it as the first option but each time I add work to it and then save it, it says: comma seperated.csv may contain features that are not compatible with CSV(comma delimited). Do you want to keep the workbook in this format? I have chosen 'yes' but am not sure if this is the right thing to do. Any advice would be great. Cheers Vikkixx

Vikki I never use csvcheck! Slapped wrists for me! lol As far as I know you don't put another schedule number in until you come to the next household. I would think that it is just to alert the validator when they are checking it, so they can make sure it's been done properly. Just had a look on censdemo and they haven't enetered a schedule number until the beginning of the next household. Jeanette x

help! I have come across a large family that continues onto a new page. When i run csvcheck it says that 'address has changed in middle of household' Is this because I havent put a schedule number in, on this new page? If so, do I just put the same schedule number as the prvious page (as its the same house)? Or, do I put a 'zero'? What should I do? Cheers in advance! Vikkixx

Afternoon Tracy! Did you download Genie? I would put the - in column T. an x in column V, and then a guess at what it might be in column Y. If you don't have Genie, just put ?county in column Y Jeanette x

Hi Vikki Not a daft question at all! To be honest I haven't come across it before. Yes I would enter the folio and page numbers, then put x in column H, and then a comment in column Y. Just so everyone knows, by putting an x in a designated column, this alerts the checking program to the fact that there is a query. If you don't put the x in the column then the program won't know there is a problem. Walter To be honest, I don't spend that much time messing around with it. If I can't read the image by enlarging it in the usual way, then I leave it for the validator to work out. Jeanette x
