Trying to find out what happened to Daniel, (a sawyer) and Charlotte PEAK after the death of their twin sons Daniel and John, aged 3 days, in December 1862 in Madley, Herefordshire. I found an English-born Daniel of the right age, also a sawyer, in the 1880 U.S. census online.
How do I find out if he could be the right one?
He was baptised Daniel John PEAK in 1835, but so far I've only seen him as Daniel in any records.

Thank you for that Carol. The Wigan death certainly looks interesting in particular. I couldn't find Daniel in 1881 and that's what made me look at other possibilities and when I found a sawyer in USA it made me wonder. -Still don't know where Charlotte( nee MEDLEY)was in 1880/1881 or when they married. Might have to get that certificate to find if she was the informant.

Hi Gwyneth I had similar problem. By process of iliminatiom (& the US census!) I found that one of my rellies migrated to Utah in the 1880s. I did a bit of Googling & came up with an MSN site run on similar lines as GC called Our Ancestors & Kin (or something like that) I put a message on their board not really expecting anything & I got a reply from a lovely lady named Norma listing him.his family & his childrens familys. Can't confirm of course but names & dates all tie up. This site is run from the USA. If you are interested email me & I will give you the addy. Regards Brenda

Now I might be getting somewhere! Thank you all for your interest and help. Mea, That certainly looks like him. Daniel was baptised in Little Dean and his sister was Rosa, so he could have named his daughter after her.It looks like they moved around within the area, crossing county boundaries and that's why I didn't find him in Herefordshire. Brenda That sounds a good idea. I will followup the possible Wigan death first to see if he came back(if it was him who went!)

Old post, but still looking.........

I now know that Daniel married Charlotte WEDLEY ...(not Medley) and they were in Ince in Makerfield, Lancashire in 1881, transcribed as LEAKE.

I would still like to be sure that it was not 'my' Daniel in America in 1880 and wonder if all these years on whether there is extra information online.....
Still trying to find shipping records.
Can anyone help please?
I have a note... re. 13 December 1879 for a Dan PEAKE that someone gave me in relation to this, but I don't know if that is an immigration date or from a sailing list.
Are there details out there please that would confirm whether or not it was my distant relative in USA ?

Thank you for looking Mel.

I think Charlotte remarried as a widow in 1887, but her husband, James HARDING seems to have a different birthplace at each census, so I'm leaving them for now, as Daniel is my bloodline and they are enough to deal with !

It seems to be a big coincidence if the one in USA in 1880 isn't him....

I can't find one that is in the US in 1880.

I can find one who is a Fitter but his age is years out.

There is another born 16.9.1896 born Ireland a Machinist and wife Margaret and two children born 1923 and 1926. This is a naturalization record.

He is on a tree on Ancestry as having died in Burra, South Australia in 1899. However, seeing as they have him marrying Charlotte Wadley in Michigan USA in 1862 I wouldn't take it as gospel.

Thank you for looking for him Thelma and Marie Celeste.

He fits the bill age-wise and occupation in 1880, but I have nothing to say that the one in America could be mine, other than perhaps a big coincidence.
I looked for him returning to UK but didn't find him.

Marie Celeste
I noted those world wide references earlier this afternoon, when I was checking trees.
Bit of a muddle there, I'd say..........but some have been happy to copy !!
