I've found quite an interesting site if you are looking for the relative status of different occupations. It's a bit scholarly for a Sunday afternoon but still useful. http://www.cf.ac.uk/socsi/CAMSIS/Data/BritainC19.html#1771-1866 There is a fun version of it on the Channel 4 website called You in 1905 where you can put in an occupation and see what sort of life you would have lead. Daft but interesting.
