Emma Report 23 Sep 2003 22:41

Hi Bernard, Had a look for your relatives to see if they may have been born slightly earlier than you say, but nothing looks likely I'm afraid. I can only do 1891 lookups - have you checked on the 1901 census?

Hi Shelli, RG12/309, Folio 29, Pg 19 44 Duckett Street Mile End Old Town London Richard Mills, head, mar, 37, Steam Crane Driver, Shoreditch Jane Mills, wife, mar, 31, Walthamstow Ernest Mills, son, 11, Peckham Ellen Mills, daur, 9, Peckham Percy Mills, son, 7, Old Ford Harriett Mills, daur, 4, Homerton Thomas Mills, son, 2, Stepney Edith Mills, daur, 8mnth, Stepney As for your Coulbys. The only William Coulbys are in Yorkshire and Nottingham and none of these are the right age. Using a soundex brings up many more, but still none of the right age with father William. The closest I could find is William Caulby in London with father J W Caulby, mother Elizabeth, and sisters Elizabeth, Ellen and Florence. This family is in St. George in the East London and all children were born there. If you want the details let me know.

Hi Again Shelli, Your Wards look like they've been wrongly indexed - probably because the wife and daughter have only their initials in a very "flowery" hand! RG12/307, Folio 139, Page 18 1 Louisa Gardens, Mile End Old Town, London Thomas Ward, head, mar, 35, Painter, London Poplar E T Ward, wife, mar, 29, London Stepney (This could easily be CT or even CJ) J C Ward, daur, 5, London Mile End (This could be JE)
