I've lost the plot. I am convinced that Sylvia has it. so I will sit back and watch. I can't even find the 1871 census.

I'm going to ring my grandfather, he's Irish, he will love the fact that his wife had some irish in her

Daniel

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 22:33

I'm thinking that there was a lot of anti-irish in those times so he may have lied about being Irish in the later census I have

it was all done just to confound us!!!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Sep 2007 22:33

Daniel,

again a common misunderstanding on the censuses seems to be,

census taker asks "where are you from?"

Person answers with where they last came from, not birthplace!!

I'm sorry but I don't think Sylvia's on the right track. James is a schoolteacher & a retired schoolteacher in 1861 &1871. Rhoda is an assistant teacher in 1861.

& where does Ireland come into it?

Daniel

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 22:32

Sylvia 100% as my birth cert has Rhoda (R on the census you found) in Windsor too
