I have Jeremiahs marriage certificate, thats where we got Denis from. I don't know anymore than "Cork" as a place of origin. We've spent forever looking with no look at all. It seems Denis and Jeremiah McCarthy are common names in Cork. I think we may have a look at his marriage in Parish records in Durham. Thanks anyway!!

Hi Brian

Without knowing where in Cork your McCarthy family came from it's going to be very difficult to pin down any reliable information.

I've looked at the IGI records on the www.familysearch.org/ website and there are hundreds of records for Dennis & Jermiah McCarthy in Cork.

If you know where and when Jerimiah married you might be able to trace his mother's name in the Parish records as they often record the parents names of the bride and groom....or you might find the marriage in the IGI records.

Thats great! I'm looking for a Jeremiah McCarthy born in Cork 1854. All we know is his father was Denis. Any idea of the best place to start??

Go to www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ and search!


When you've found one that is 'yours' then click on the name and then click on

Household Return (Form A), Page 1 to see the census image


N.B. I have discoverd that some records are in IRISH not ENGLISH!

Which may explain why some of you cannot find any records.
