This will be my first Fathers Day without my dad. I want to do something in his memory. I thought about making a donation to a charity. What do other the rest of you do?

Thought of donation to the British Heart Foundation, because he died of a heart attack and that's where we sent the donations after his funeral.

Thanks Julia & Margaret, I know it's the first of many "first" and know that it will get easier with time.

Love the idea of planting something, but unlike dad, I don't have very green fingers. I could imagine him looking down at me at laughing at my efforts....lol...

It will be 4 years this october since my Dad died and I still miss him, but the memories bring smiles and laughter more often than tears these days.

I think a donation to charity is a good idea..............or maybe a tree planted locally, some councils run schemes, so it might be worth ringing them to see if they have any ideas for you.

Well I have made a donation to the British Heart Foundation in memory of my dad.

Mum has decided that she doesn't want a plaque for him at the crematoriam so I've decided to choose a really nice plant for my garden instead.

Good for you Maggie..........my dear old Dad loved his Iris plants.........I have them in my garden now and when they flower I think of him.

My brothers insisted that we have a plaque in the crematorium for Dad and Mum but neither of them have visited it.

The memories are held in your heart and that is the important thing :)

My son and I 'bought' my Dad a tree for his 70th birthday, it is planted in a wood somewhere in England, can't remember where without digging out the certificate, he was alive then but didn't need things so I thought it was a nice gift, his name is in a book with all the other names of people who had trees donated to turn a dull piece of land into a wood again. I had forgotten till I read this thread.
I think since Dad died in 1990 I have inherited his green fingers, didn't used to be so good with plants but over the last ten years or so, my plants do so much better and I seem to know the names of lots of them even tho I didn't realise I knew, if you are with me.
Why not give a tree a go, Maggy, you might surprise yourself, or your Dad might give you some guidance as mine seems to have done.

Hi Liz

I was going to suggest planting a tree. I think thats a wonderful idea and the tree will, hopefully live for hundreds of years.
