Hello Helen, I was diagnosed with this in 1993. When they mentioned "Crohns Disease" I thought it sounded terrible, and wondered what the hell it involved.

Having had it since then, and a few flare-ups due to my ignorance lol, I will not let it run my life - and it doesn't.

All I would advise is that your friend gets to know how her digestive system reacts to e.g. spicy foods, some citrus fruit - you know, strong acidy stuff like that.

Sometimes I get what I call "punched-stomach syndrome", because it feels just like that. Apparently that's when my stomach lining is inflamed, so I know not to eat spicy foods, or citrus fruit, which would bring on an attack.

Tip: A good, calming drink for her "system" is Camomile and Spiced Apple herbal tea, sweetened with a bit of honey. Okay, some might say "yeuk", but it works!

Good luck to your friend.

My youngest son (age 37) has this and was diagnosed in 1998. He has been on various drugs including steroids. He now has injection every other week and controls the pain with watching what he eats.

Like Tinkys OH my B-I-L was rushed to theatre with suspected appendicitis, on opening him up they noticed his intestine was bad? (i didn't want to know all the details)cut it out and he's been ok since,he's supposed to follow a diet etc but he's not under the doctors or hospital for follow ups and still goes on holidays and out every weekend on the sauce, he gets a bad stomach now and again but it doesn't lay him low.
