American British Subject

My great grandmother has this on the 1901 census. She was born in America but her parents were both born in England. Hope this helps.

my 2x gt grandfather had french british subject on his ..........both his parents were english . so he took there nationality aswell . so dont knowif this is the same

Can some given some idea as to what American British Subject means, my grand mother has this on the cenus for 1901.
