GP's are well paid at around £100k but hospital consultants often earn little more that £30-40k, around the same as the tanker drivers currently on strike.

I wonder if Colleen ever has the fun and anticipation of saving up for something, rather than the money already being accessible? (And no, I'm not talking about the wedding this time!)

I too think its obscene, and also think footballers are grossly overpaid ,but they are hardly likely to say no thanks are they, I am sure many of us would be delighted at the offer of more money if we are honest.
its what they or we do with it,i believe a lot of well- knowns do donate to charities.

Viv, Karen, i'm with you girls. Work hard!!!! yes they run a lot more than i ever could but they r doing what they love!! It's a paid hobby to them. I work hard and get paid pittance which is why my wedding had 15 people and a meal in a pub!!!

There really is no need for such extravagance but hell it is their money! Giving donations to charity is nice, but what would u buy them anyway....??????

**Runs off with hands firmly on head cowering** Where did they hide

i hid at work...lol.

Heard on the radio that Coleen spent 1/25 of her earnings on her dress....the same as an "average" bride.

surely your wedding day should be what you want it to be...wether thats going down the Registry Office in a pair of jeans(i know someone that did) or having the most extravagent wedding you can afford......

at the risk of getting shot down.............why does it bother so many people......its their money...shouldn't they be allowed to spend it how they want.
the cost of their wedding is relative to their earnings....

What I object to as well as the amount being spent, that's up to them if they want to show off, is that fact that we have to have it shoved in our faces morning noon and night by the media! Every little thing is deemed reportable. So what if she changed her knickers 3 times!

I DON'T CARE!!.....sorry to shout!

I too think its a large amount of money,
I would imagine they have had a fair amount of 'freebies' too.
Its a large amount of money for the Italian economy instead of ours,
However, I know they do a fair bit for charity, so I would imagine they have given a bit there too.
Also I have met Wayne, a few times, in my job, and I know he has always been very polite, giving autographs, and photos, even though I have witnessed the public being rude to him,
I dont think letting slip how much their wedding has cost, has done them any favours, ( if the figures are to be believed)
cmdx
Its their money though....

football was the working mans sport, somewhere to go and let off steam after a hard weeks work. Now the working man can hardly afford to go see a game. And the overpaid footballers rub our noses in it by spending vast amounts of money on over priced weddings cars and homes. There are more improtant jobs where people do not earn those sums of money.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 13 Jun 2008 17:21

what I object to with footballers as opposed to rugby players is that when they score a goal they all congratulate each other and run towards their supporters arms outstretched with a "look how clever I am" attitude when that is exactly what they are supposed to do and what they are getting extraordinarlily well paid to do. Supporters appear to be ripped of by the price of merchandise, and in particular young lads who look up to them as heroes and they want the strip. Poor parents therefore foot the bill to pay for the strip. All this money and a small team like Gretna Green went to the wall through lack of funds - how nice if one of the big clubs had given them a helping hand - where's the sportsmanship there? Rugby players score and carry on with the game and they are not paid anything like footballers. It's only kicking a ball around a pitch when all's said and done. Rant over

Jac

Jac Report 13 Jun 2008 17:42

Am I alone then in thinking that two young people, in love and wanting to get hitched should have the wedding of their dreams?

OK - their dreams aint exactly the same as mine but if it's their dream and they can afford it, why criticise them?

It's highly unlikely that they would have donated an equivalent amount to any charity and sloped off to Gretna Green is it? the wedding and all the claptrap surrounding comes with the territory of celebrity-ism (?)

If they are still together when they are 60+, and Wayne and Mrs Wayne are only drawing a state pension cos they frittered away their loot when they were younger, well..................I'd say.no good crying to me laddy.................you should have saved yer dosh when you had it!

On a similar theme, do you think Fern should have not had a gastic belt fitted, but merely tightened her knicker elastic, and donated the surgeon's fee to charity?
