Yes, I have Googled the WI Regt a lot. It brings up more questions than it does answer any. I was just hoping that among the many Palmer genealogists that I could get another tip to chase down. I can speculate a lot about what I know but if I stick to the facts, I am still at a loss as to why a man from Aberdeenshire would be a Sergeant in the West Indian Regiment doing living in Battersea.

I have read all that I can find about the WI Regiments and all the connections with the regulare British Army as far back as the late 1700's. I have confirmed my facts and crosschecked them. I know that there were British officers and non-coms in WI, that battalions often rotated within the reg from home to active theatres but no indication ever that WI personnel or parts of their organizatrion were ever in Battersea.

I am trying to determine if there is a link between Lt Col James Palmer, or his father Maj James Palmer Sr., both of the West India Regiment, and of Anglo-Irish decent, and my grandmother Sarah Ann Palmer, a military seamstress (and who's mother was also a military seamstress) who married Sergeant James Grant Troup in 1901 who was in the West Indian Regiment and living in Battersea!!

What was a Sergeant in the West Indian Regiment doing living in Battersea. His residence remained there for the rest of his life. I have a copy of their marriage cert and it clearly states under Rank or Profession "Sergeant West Indian Regt."

Any suggestions would help.
