I know it won't help right now but whenever you create a new file, the first thing you should do is save it - even before you have input any data. Some software will then autosave but it is good computing practice to try to remember to save every few minutes. Word and Works (WP) can be set to autosave.

Notepad is an extremely basic programme and does not have an autosave feature.
Had you saved the file at all?

I have been working on photos of headstones and had listed vast quantities of names and dates etc on Note Pad...... and my bleeping computer crashed!

Does XP auto save such things when the computer crashes - and if it does, where is it saved to?

*sits with fingers crossed*
